Preserving soil will take more collaboration, more leadership, says Senator Black
Просмотров 6018 часов назад
Canada is a huge country with a relatively low population. In theory, that leaves plenty of land for growing food. But between the Canadian Shield, permafrost, the Rockies, highways and infrastructure, cities and towns there's far less land available than you might think, and less every year. That means the demand put on each acre of arable land - the soil - only increases each year. Given thes...
Corn School: Nitrogen strategies for early and late-planted crops
Просмотров 93722 часа назад
As the calendar turns to the back half of June in Ontario, growers typically sharpen their focus on nitrogen management as the crop pushes into its rapid growth phases. But what's happening in the field in mid June 2024 is really dependent on where in the province you farm and whether you've been able to avoid continuous rain and get corn planted in a timely manner. Ontario Ministry of Farming,...

Просмотров 957 часов назад
Thanks for tuning in to this Friday edition of RealAg Radio! Haney is then joined by Kelvin Heppner and Lyndsey Smith, both of RealAgriculture for the RealAg Issues Panel....
Why are we so "meh" about our challenges?
Просмотров 477 часов назад
As Canadians, we pride ourselves on our clean water, living skies, the Rockies, maple syrup, playing hockey, and saying sorry. There are other things to be proud of too, like our democracy and our ability to grow food for the world's population. It would seem, though, that when one or more of these points of pride is being eroded, the best response we seem able to muster lately is "meh." For ex...
Strong beef demand continues - what does it mean with a shrinking cow herd?
Просмотров 437 часов назад
It's a good news story with a cautionary undercurrent: North American beef demand has held steady, even in the face of high retail prices. No matter where you live in North America, if you love beef, you're buying - even when the sticker shock makes your eyes water. North American beef numbers have trended upwards even while many competitors' markets have trended down, like in Australia, Argent...
Meet Rob Flack, Ontario's new Minister of *Agriculture, Food, and Agribusiness
Просмотров 237 часов назад
It didn't take long for Ontario's new agriculture minister to put his stamp on the provincial agriculture department, at least on its title. Former Masterfeeds CEO-turned-MPP for Elgin-Middlesex-London, Rob Flack jokes he will go down as Ontario's shortest-tenured Minister of Farming, Agriculture, and Agribusiness, as that's how he was introduced in Premier Doug Ford's cabinet shuffle last Thur...

Просмотров 3529 часов назад
For this episode of the Pulse School, RealAgriculture's Amber Bell is joined by BASF's Nicole Fox to talk about different inoculant formulations, application techniques, and where to look for healthy nodules. In some situations there is a risk of nodulation failure, so understanding the proper handling of inoculant and choosing the right type - liquid, in-furrow, peat, or granular - is key to s...

Is there an average pound loss of nutrients from baling the straw versus s po reading it? Or is it field to field based? I have a strong straw bale business
Excellent question. I'lll pass this on to Wheat Pete!
The goat
Are they using a 6 in spaceing or 12 ? And does it have a benefit for the crop
Can inoculant be spray on after soybeans come up ? Adding molases to inoculant help to feed and sevive in the soil?
No, inoculant has to be on the seed, so it's picked up by the emerging plant structures. Proper handling of inoculant before application keeps it alive and working (i.e avoiding extreme heat, letting it sit in the seeder tank)
What do you guys think of the bio Agronox bio stimulants from Manitoba
Mine canola has been growing pretty quick!
sheinbaum was the only valid option, the opposition can barely run their own parties. They pocketed money meant to go for their campaign. Also the opposition doesn't support big farms to contradict the comments. My family has some vineyards in the state of zacatecas and frankly we didn't notice a difference AG wise between former governments and the current one.
This tax is simply a way to take the sacrifices that people made in order to build these farms and businesses and confiscate it and pretend to distribute it among the poor the average Canadian consider making the sacrifices that these people have. So the average Canadian will think it’s wonderful to take away something from someone else. It’s a sick form of revenge and the government is shameless enough to take advantage of it. It’s the same psychological principle behind what made the holocaust possible, just in a different context.
Very helpful! Thank you for sharing this podcast!
Sounds like fear of change to me
Mexico just make a big corn deal whit Brazil 🇧🇷

How can this be applied to lawns and flowerbeds?
A great discussion, wider ranging than the usual market commentary about the news of the moment, thank you!
Are you using a strip teel with the planter attached what do you think about that set up
Don't deal with Grain fox. Neil Townsend is corrupt and ignorant. He was useless on the CWB. Just a narcissist who needs to be heard. There is better analysts out there
Thank you! Enjoyed, as always.

Good
Perfect timing this is what im deciding today
If your average count is per say 30 plants per square foot.. what is the range or variability in your plant count per square foot ? mine was 20-37 this wk on my own wheat stands which I thought is highly variable !
There’s definitely variations there, but it’s not uncommon to vary between 20-37 plants/ft2 in individual plant counts. If you have concerns about the field being variable, it is helpful to count more spots to get a good average. Keep track of the numbers over multiple fields/years to see how different factors (seeder, soil conditions, etc) change the emergence % and variabilities. Hope it helps! - Ruoxi Xia, Alberta Grains
Why does it matter if the grass gets long?
Because too long/tall and the plants will cover the panels, decreasing the amount of power captured

It must be so reassuring to have a new Deputy Minister with several qualifications in Political Science. Clearly a person who has spent his time wisely and with a real feel for the working person.
Looking to use Fungi with Egyptian Wheat for Deer bedding and screens in North Central Texas also fungi with cowpeas
This was very interesting!
Pete, what's the deal with wheat seeding around Apr 8 on eastern ND. There is no wheat growing in streaks throughout the field. It is coming up spotty finally but a whole month behind the same wheat in same field. Moisture was nice and even when planted.
I always learn something from your program. Great comments about corn! I remember the u70s and 80s. Most guys were still planting into late June . .

Yes indeed, they will have to switch to a shorter corn variety, but unfortunately , everyone scrambling needs the same thing. Another option is a switch to soybeans, but then they run into rotational problems with back to back soybeans on the same ground as last year. Might have to go get some sunflower seed as they are similar to corn with a stalk and root ball.
Great information!!! Thank you so much!
What brand of storage, work bench is in your shop
amazing, I hope more plants, especially c4 photosynthesizing plants, can get this trait into their genome
Thank you for your video. From the 1st to 3rd months, my corns were so good. But, the the out door temperature was 85-95 F. The corns were dried death. Please, explain?
